Brac Greywater Systems

The  Brac System is the only approved whole house Graywater recycling system available in North America.

These systems are economical, efficient and widely accepted by local building authorities.

Most importantly, these systems will save both valuable water resources and
money. With quickly escalating water costs they will pay for themselves
in a relatively short time.

How The Brac System Works

As shown in the diagram below, the Brac System collects Graywater from the bath, shower, sinks and laundry. Water is not collected from the kitchen  ink or the dishwasher, as this water is classified as Blackwater in most jurisdictions. In some systems, rainwater is added when available,
to supplement the Graywater collection.

The Graywater is the filtered disinfected and stored until it is needed for
toilet flushing. In some jurisdictions the water can also be used for
irrigation as shown in the diagram below.

Save over 50% on your indoor water use!

As shown on the diagram to the right, 35% of the average homes water is used for bathing. This is more than enough to supply the toilets with water for flushing.

When the laundry is added to the system, another 20% savings can be  achieved. This water can be used to effectively, (with proper
disinfection )  water landscape plants.

This combination creates a net savings of over 50% of potable water usage. With rising water rates and the  increasing frequency of water rationing, it's easy to see how a system like this can quickly pay for itself in both money saved and environmental impact.

BRAC FACTS

• About 65% of indoor home water use occurs in our bathrooms. Toilets are the single greatest water user.

UNESCO has predicted that by 2020 water shortage will be a serious worldwide problem.”

• Did you know that in Canada in 2001, the average person uses more than 335 litres of fresh water a day?

• In your house check for leaks from faucets and pipes; even the smallest drip can waste as much as 75 liters a day.

• Almost 80% of the earth's surface is covered in water. Of this, 97% is
salt water, 2% is glacial ice. That leaves less than 1% as fresh water for us to use.

• The human body is about 70% water; we cannot survive more than a week without water.

• A mere 10% of our home water supply is used in the kitchen and as drinking water.

• Indoor water use peaks twice a day year-round, in the mornings and evenings.

• The biggest peaks during the year occur in the summer, when about half to three quarters of all municipally treated water is sprayed onto lawns.

• As a community grows, the water use grows even faster because the
diversity of water uses increases with size.
