Buying an organic bed is a long-term investment in your health as well as the well-being of our planet. Standard mattresses are constructed of petroleum based foams and then soaked in an average of one and a half pounds of toxic chemicals. Many of these are known carcinogens and even have been banned in Europe. When we sleep, these chemicals give off gas and we breathe them in. The damage to our bodies can be huge. They can affect our central nervous system, our internal organs, our brain function and more. If you are pregnant, these poisons will cross the placenta and go into your breastmilk. They have also been found in newborn babies' cord blood.
Our beds are made from Organic Cotton with Pure Grow Wool or Natural Latex tapped from rubber tree plants. Wool is a natural flame retardent, as well as antibacterial. It also regulates your body temperature - keeping you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Latex is naturally mold, mildew and dustmite resistant. HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT MATTRESS
Many websites have lots of technical information on which mattress is right for you. I will share what I have learned watching people come into our store trying out the different styles.

ORGANIC COTTON/PURE GROW WOOL INNERSPRING
This mattress is the basic conventional-type innerspring mattress, but without the toxic foam and chemicals. It is the best choice for the budget minded, or those who like a firmer mattress. It is meant to be used with a boxspring, for the longest life and best performance. The boxspring also allows the bed to breathe.
This mattress is made of pure natural latex, tapped from rubber tree plants. It is naturally mold, mildew and dustmite resistant. Don't be fooled by other makers claiming to sell natural latex that actually has been blended with synthetics. Most people with latex sensitivities are actually reacting to the synthetic additives. This mattress is our best seller. It is perfect for those with allergies, pressure point problems, or sensitivities to metal innersprings. People who like a firm mattress, but one that gently gives and cradles the body love this mattress. Transfer of motion (when the person next to you moves around) is very limited and moms who have this mattress tell me it is perfect for sneaking away from sleeping baby.
If you are looking for additional softness, or to mimic the feel of a "memory foam" mattress (which has been found, according to a german study, to be the most toxic mattress made), check out the Dream Lite Latex Mattress, or the All Natural Pedic. These mattresses do not need a boxspring - they need firmer support. You can buy a wood foundation (looks like a boxspring but all wood inside) or use a slat frame or platform bed.
COMBO INNERSPRING/LATEX MATTRESS
Mattresses such as the top-of-the-line Aurora or it's budget minded partner, the Paradise, are innerspring mattresses that have a 2 inch layer of latex surrounding the springs. With this you get the bounce of an innerspring, with the comfort of latex. You will not feel the innersprings through the latex. This, to me, is a cushier, softer bed. We have the Aurora and wake up each morning giving thanks for our incredible bed! We bought the less pricey Paradise for our baby and it is a very comfy alternative, perhaps just a tiny bit firmer than the Aurora. The latex gives you that mold, mildew and dustmite resistance. These mattresses can be used with a corresponding boxspring, or a wood foundation, or my favorite, a slat frame.
All of our organic mattresses meets all state and federal fire codes, including the new 2005 California mattress fire code. No fire retardant chemicals or any other chemicals are used in any of our organic mattresses. This hand crafted organic mattress is made in the USA by Vivetique/Crown City Mattress Company, America's oldest manufacturer of organic beds. Although a "shopping cart" is set up to purchase mattresses - we are available through e-mail or phone to talk to you and help you with your purchase. Shipping Information:
Due to the size of mattresses, we quote the shipping on each order separately. Feel free to email info@organicgrace.com for a rate quote before checking out. Include your physical address and which products you plan to purchase. We will get back to you quickly with a shipping quote. The quote you receive will be our cost. We do not mark-up shipping so that your costs stay low. If you prefer, you may contact us at (707) 923-1296 11 am-5:30 pm (Pacific). No bedding orders are processed without customer approval of total shipping charges. If you are in the Garberville, California area, you may pick up your order at our store to cut shipping costs, as we do monthly "batch" deliveries. There is still a ship charge, as we are charged shipping from the manufacturer to our store, but it is considerably less than having a freight company deliver it. This "in store" ship charge, is included in the purchase price and may cause our in store prices to vary somewhat from the website prices.
Please expect approximately 4 weeks for delivery as each mattress is handcrafted.
